“7 June embarks World Food Safety Day ensuring nutritious, safe & healthy food for all”
For the first time ever
World Food Safety Day
will be observed on 7 June 2019 by the United Nations after the same was
adopted by United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2018 December. The theme
for World Food Safety Day
this year, ‘Food safety, everyone’s business’, will be focusing on the fact
that access to nutritious, safe and healthy food is a mutual responsibility of
individuals, producers, and governments as well. The first observation of this
event will be taking place in New York with a panel discussion where various
interactive dialogues will be provided by the panel members on food safety.
Food safety is the
process in which food is produced, prepared, handled and stored in a way that
it reduces the risk of individuals becoming sick from any food-borne illness. It
is of utmost importance because the way food is consumed affects our body
either in a positive or negative way. In accordance with Global Food Standards,
establishing regulatory food control system, building strong food safety
management systems, providing access to clean water are the different ways in
which producers, governments and international organization ensure food safety.
On the World Food Safety Day, the UNGA
will make an effort to speak about food safety in the public forum and try to reduce
the burden of any food-borne disease over the world.
