World Alzheimer’s Day 21 Sept 2019

“Sometimes you have to grieve the loss of a person who is still alive.”
Every year on 21st September World Alzheimer’s Day is celebrated globally. Considered to be an international campaign, the aim of World Alzheimer’s Day is to increase awareness that surrounds Alzheimer’s related dementia. Many of us still are unaware of what exactly is Alzheimer & why is it called one of the deadliest diseases? To speak in a simple world, Alzheimer is the disease that impairs many mental functions and the memory as well. It’s also associated with the loss of cognitive abilities which are considered to be serious enough to interfere with any person’s daily life.

World Alzheimer’s Day 2019 marks the 8th Alzheimer’s year since the time the campaign was first launched in the year 2012. From different studies held previously, it was found that on an average of 2 out of 4 people have little to no understanding about the disease, its cause and also its effects. The impact of World Alzheimer’s Day is increasing since its inception; however, the lack of information globally calls for some serious action. The greatest risk factor of this disease is the increasing age & the majority of patients suffering from this disease are 65 years or older.

The objectives of World Alzheimer’s Day 2019 are as follows:

·        Raise and enhance awareness about Alzheimer’s globally
·        Focus on the services provided for Alzheimer’s patients at all the different stages of the disease
·        Hold workshops and deliver care to the patients in the right and best ways possible.
·        Reduce the risk of this disease by adopting the various healthy approach and change the old lifestyle

World Alzheimer’s Day 2019 focuses on providing the maximum information about the disease to the population at large and wants people to take a step forward and help Alzheimer's patients. Moreover, on World Alzheimer’s Day 2019 different health organizations will also be calling on governments to provide a minimum investment of about 1% of the societal cost of dementia to funding research in care improvements & public health.

Thousands of activities will be held all over the world on World Alzheimer’s Day to provide the best possible help to the patients suffering from this disease. Alzheimer’s isn’t a joke and people who are affected by this diseaseneed to be understood, respected and cared for. On this World Alzheimer’s Day, we want you to help and be a part of the Global Dementia Friends Movement.
