World Heart Day is the World Heart Federation's biggest platform for raising awareness of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and is celebrated every year on 29 September. This year the campaign on World Heart Day is to create a global community of Heart Heroes and the aim is to inspire, educate and motivate people to keep their hearts healthy and encourage them to act as self-motivators. The initiative was founded in the year 2000 to inform people to take care of their heart and themselves. One of the leading causes of death in the world is heart problems and a major population of the world is suffering from different heart diseases like heart failure, stroke.

World Heart Day is celebrated globally to reduce the number of cardiovascular diseases thereby reducing the death rates all over the world. As per the World Health Organization, CVD is the reason for about 40% deaths over the globe. The most dangerous risk factors for heart disease are bad cholesterol, heart disease, smoking habit & increased weight. World Health Organization in collaboration with the World Heart Federation spreads all the necessary information about heart disease and various risk factors.

World Heart Day aims in motivating people to go for regular heart check-ups and follow all control measures through life. It can be considered to be the day when people promise to quit smoking, eat healthily, get involved in daily physical activity to keep their heart in good shape. On World Heart Day people also become aware that different factors like unhealthy diets, bad lifestyle are the causes of heart diseases. World heart Day hope to the people suffering from heart disease and ensures them that heart problems can be prevented and can be put under control.

The objective of World Heart Day is to improve the heart health of individuals globally and motive people to adopt a healthy lifestyle and gain knowledge about ways to deal with heart problems. The World Health Organization has made a target to reduce the mortality rate by 2025 thereby focusing on premature deaths causes for the same being cardiovascular diseases.  World Heart Day is celebrated globally every year by organizing activities and events related to heart health. This campaign aims to encourage people for participation so that these campaigns are a success and to make the world free of heart diseases.
