Detrimental Effects of COVID 19 & consecutive Lockdowns on Health Services Management in India

COVID 19 & Lockdown affects on Health Services Management in India
Health services management

The massive outbreak of the Corona Virus is endangering the human’s existence and this pandemic has confiscated too many lives. But people are continuously affected by this contagious disease and to contain the spreading, the Government had announced the complete lockdown. Due to this daunting situation, a deplorable impact seizes the health services management in India. Thousands of children might already have forsaken vital immunizations. The adults also have missed out their medical treatments due to the outspreading of COVID-19 and subsequent lockdown.

Disruption of health services due to the outrageous spreading of Corona Virus:

Acute statistics have demonstrated a disquieting effect in the health care system in India in March. As local health care bodies are focusing on the outspreading of the Coronavirus, the situation has significantly diminished the confined inpatient, outpatient, and emergency medication for contagious and non-communicable disease. It has also reduced immunization schedules, and curtailed access to mental health treatment.
The aforementioned analysis is based on the data derived from the NHM. This programme covers all the private health care systems in India, sub-centers, district hospitals, community centers, etc. The health services management of India is severely impacted due to the ghastly outspread of COVID-19 as per the data for March. It was demonstrated that 1,50,000 facilities were given across 627 districts. This means the data for 40000 facilities in the rest of the 75 districts were not indicated.

What is the role of Government in health in India?

The Government of India has played a leading role in health services management by affirming the significant resources through pooling resources, public budgets, and other mechanism resources. These resources are allocated for buying myriad health services, development of health, and finally guiding the resource allocation procedure.

Maternal health services management has been severely reduced:

The sudden deterioration in health services management resulted in 1,00,000 children missed their BCG vaccination, which protects them against Tuberculosis (TB). The next case of 2,00,000 people had missed the vaccination against meningitis, tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough, and many more.

 Quality of Healthcare in India:

The quality of healthcare in India depends on many parameters. Like feasible care, safe delivery, patient-oriented, and on-time care. All these are affecting due to a continuous rise in COVID19 cases. But there are differences in quality between urban and rural areas. The same is also seen between private and public health services management.
According to the NHM data, a maximum of 3,50,000 or fewer people got diabetes vaccinations. 1,50,000 or fewer people received the medications for mental illness and 1,00,000 people received the outpatient cancer medications in March 2020. This clearly shows the losses of health services management.

Outpatient medication for all leading non-communicable diseases declined in March:

Statistics of outpatient medication and disruption in health service management in India

The above statistics have encountered intense debate on the outbreak and the spread of undisclosed COVID-19 morbidity and fatality.
According to the NITI Aayog, the diminished admissions in the hospital have significantly influenced the structure of the health care system in India. But, the NHM data demonstrated that the decreasing rates of hospitalization could conceal a deficiency of access to health care.

Despite the disruptions in health services management, the government is ubiquitously providing all the amenities to the patients. But this should be kept in mind that, without any kind of transport system people cannot even come down to the hospital. So these statistics have clearly shown the people are unable to visit the hospitals due to the lockdown. Although Indian Government might provide sufficient health services management, people are not capable to avail of the facility due to the lockdown.

Overall, due to this pandemic, many people are falling ill and even dying at their homes due to the unavailability of proper treatment. Health services management has significantly disrupted and its detrimental effect leads to an increase in death rate. But we hope that the onerous situation will surely come to an end one day. Managing all the mental stress and depression the health services management of India will hopefully run in its full capacity and efficiency.
